IMPACT JOURNEY COLLECTIVE: TENERIFE
-
Tenerife is a true gem of the Canary Islands—a land of stunning contrasts, from its volcanic landscapes and lush forests to its crystal-clear waters and rich cultural heritage. Known for its year-round sunshine and incredible biodiversity, it’s a destination that captivates travelers with its natural beauty and unique experiences, like hiking the majestic Mount Teide or observing the thriving marine life along its coastlines.
However, as one of the most visited islands in Spain, Tenerife faces the challenges of over-tourism. Mass tourism has led to overcrowded beaches, environmental degradation, and strain on local infrastructure. Natural habitats are under pressure, waste production has soared, and the cultural identity of local communities is at risk of being overshadowed by tourism-driven consumption.
-
Over-tourism contributes to the depletion of natural resources, increases pollution, and harms local ecosystems. Every year, over 6 million tourists visit Tenerife, placing tremendous strain on the island’s fragile environment.
Waste production from tourists has skyrocketed, affecting both land and marine ecosystems.
But it doesn’t have to be this way! By choosing sustainable travel and participating in voluntourism, you can be part of the solution. Together, we can redefine the future of tourism and protect the places we love. We need a collective effort—from travelers like you—to safeguard the environment, restore ecosystems, and uplift local communities.
-
At Impact Journey Collective, we believe that Tenerife deserves better. We’re here to redefine how tourism interacts with this incredible destination. Our goal is to create sustainable solutions that protect Tenerife’s environment, enrich its local communities, and help restore the balance between tourism and conservation.
We offer slow travel experiences that immerse you in Tenerife’s natural and cultural beauty while ensuring your visit leaves a positive mark. Instead of simply being a tourist, you’ll become part of the solution—supporting eco-friendly practices, contributing to local economies, and participating in conservation efforts that protect this island for future generations.
-
Partnering with local eco-tourism operators who prioritize marine conservation and wildlife protection.
Staying in accommodations that are committed to sustainable development and minimal environmental impact.
Offering tours and experiences that involve local communities, ensuring tourism supports rather than exploits them.
Offering voluntourism experiences where you can directly participate in local projects like reforestation, wildlife conservation, biodiversity restoration, and community building.

This week-long program offers a balanced combination of discovery, nature immersion and cultural activities, designed to foster a deeper connection with both the environment and local traditions, blending respectful immersive tourism with volunteer actions, making you our “voluntourist”.
The journey begins with a warm welcome, followed by unique experiences such as birdwatching, whale watching, and engaging permaculture workshops. Participants will also explore local farms, plantations, and distilleries, gaining insights into sustainable practices and local agriculture. Cultural highlights include a guided tour and a hands-on mojo-making workshop, adding a culinary touch to the experience.
The week’s journey is grounded in environmental awareness, culminating in a beach cleanup initiative and an evening of stargazing. This combination of activities not only emphasizes sustainability but also leaves lasting memories and a genuine appreciation for the beauty and richness of the local ecosystem. Each experience is designed to blend exploration, education, and relaxation, providing a purposeful yet adaptable structure for all involved.
* This program is designed to span a minimum of one week, from Sunday to Sunday. However, we understand that flexibility may be needed, and we’re more than happy to accommodate alternative start days as required.
Our goal is to establish a trusted and adaptable framework with our impact partners.
